Personally one of my favorite love stories by Amanda Quick.********CAUTION POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD> PLEASE STOP NOW IF YOU DON"T WANT READ ANY SPOILERS>THANKS**********
The hero instantly falls for the heroine upon meeting her. He was just trying to get to bottom of who was the person that manage to find half a treasure map he was looking for, and got more than he bargained. He totally lost track of why he was there and the description of how he feels when he meets the heroine was beautifully written. He is so crazy about her that he quickly makes up a story to get himself hired into her employ. There were a lot of twist and turns to this story, but suffice to say that the hero was in control the whole time and manage to save the heroine and other family members time and time again. Truly great hero! Heroine was very spirited but classic Ms. Quick heroine. She was clumsy, scatterbrained at times and blue stocking from head to toe. Sometimes she would get into her exploration and studies so much that she missed details of things happening around her. This is what would cause her to get into trouble so many times, but hero was very level headed and manage save the day. All dashing and strong, what a man!
Even though his family considered him "cold" he just had strong self control. However, when it came to the heroine he was especially passionate, lost much of his prized self control and was just plain crazy about her. The love story was very entertaining and well written. These are the passionate books I miss about Ms. Quick writing.
So if you are looking for good romance with lost treasures, nerdy heroine, strong dominant alpha hero, and several well written twist and turns in the novel that will leave you glued to the story: look no further because this is your book. It had family feuds, treasure hunting family, rejected ex fiancé and her entourage, colorful 2nd characters, passionate love scenes, romantic love story, dominant hero, naïve/sweet heroine, and what started as a deception was nicely resolved in the book.

Deception A Novel Amanda Quick 9780553565065 Books Reviews
I liked this one a lot, I kept turning the pages long after I had told myself to put it down. She set it up so the hero, Jared, is a guy that goes around rescuing people, then puts the heroine into situations in which she needs to be rescued. Finally, the tables are turned, she rescues him (by locking him up) and that turns out to be what he needs to feel that she really loves him. It sounds very simple, but she threads this through the entire book & pulls it off.
I also liked the contrast between describing him as dull, when he really wasn't. I could emphatize with the idea of his holding to schedules and lists to keep order in his chaotic world. He was someone that had real power, because of his business skills and real intelligence too, but his family thought him dull.
The heroine was a space cadet and not aware of it She somehow didn't seem as interesting to me, but it worked.
The supporting cast was great fun, also - with the kids, the housekeeper, even the butler and especially Jared's father and uncle.
I see that some people felt that because Quick described Jared's family as thinking him dull, he really was. OTOH, what interests one person doesn't interest another - I thought the contrast between the different images people had of him one of the most interesting pieces of the book. None were perhaps totally right, but certainly he wasn't anything like as dull as described, he was actually quite intelligent & in his own way, as passionate as the heroine kept claiming.
Plucky, absentminded heroine meets rebel hero, who is a staid, rigid fellow driven half mad by his feckless, extravagant family. While perhaps predictable in the broad outlines, the quirky characters our unlikely duo find themselves with, and the ridiculous situations, make for a fun, fast-paced comedic romp. Not every historical book needs to be filled with Gothic doom and gloom.
For one reason or other I had not read your books for quite some time but it never seem to amazed me the capacity of captivating your audience you have reading your books is like transporting to the era and being there I love it you are an inspiration to other writers
A Great Love Story & Mystery
The Hero presents himself to the Heroine as a tutor sent by her uncle to assist her with the raising of her three "nephews" (really her cousin's children). He is after a book that she has come into possession of that has clues to a supposed buried treasure. His Great-Grandfather was a pirate who buried the treasure years before and the book is a diary written by his great-grandmother who left all the information in various clues. The Heroine figures out the clues, but is unaware that the Hero is really a Viscount until he is spotted with her in London by his former financee. Things happen quickly as a marriage takes place, clues are solved, and someone keeps trying to kill the Hero. All this is written in a light-hearted way with love saving the day in the end.
This was a sweet story. I have a few Amanda Quick books I really love to read. What I love the most about her stories that the woman are very smart and studious but because their noses are stuck in books they are often in La La land and don't make the margraf choices in terms of being safe. They are sheltered in some ways. Sometimes I reread some of her books. This is one of the stories I like to reread. This story is about a Man who was born into a criminal family (pirate) but he finds a way to make their business more legit. However his relatives send him off to follow up in a lead about a map leading to treasure. This leads him to a woman historian who is raising several children. The dialogue ad interactions between the characters is what makes this book a great read. The personalities of so vivid as to be believable but the story is so sweet that it provides an awesome escape from the real world.
Personally one of my favorite love stories by Amanda Quick.
