A chance meeting…
After inheriting a bar from his estranged father, all Derek wants to do is hand if off to someone else. He only planned to stay in Pennsylvania for a few days, but fate has a funny way of butting its nose in where it doesn’t belong, especially when it turns out to be a man with the bluest eyes he’s ever seen.
Who needs love when they’ve got the job of their dreams?
When Jake’s gorgeous one-night stand turns out to be the owner of the bar he’s trying to secure for a client, he does a double-take. The last thing he needs after getting his heart stomped on by his ex is another relationship, especially at the cost of his job. But the more these two try to keep things professional, the stronger their temptation becomes.
One more night. What harm could it do?
Derek’s only in town until the end of the week. Is one more night together worth the risk? Or will Derek return home with a heavier heart than when he left?

This was such a lovely story. The connections made by Derek with the staff at the bar and the most important connection he made with Jake were at the heart of this engaging love story. There are moments in life when you meet someone and realize you've met someone special. Someone who will be an important part of your life. If the stars align and you follow your heart, you'll find your HEA.This was a well written book...a believable series of emotions. Well done Miya Lee.

Conflict of Interest edition by Devon Cross Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I wanted to give this book 3 stars, but I just couldn't. It was a total miss for me. Jake seemed very naive, which was weird, especially given that he was a lawyer. It didn't seem believable to me. I could not get into Derek's character from the very beginning. He just rubbed me the wrong way. Every thought in his head was negative. At least Jake had a cute personality. And the sex scenes took up way too much of the story, which gave the book very little substance to me. But, hey, what do I know.
Derek has returned home to settle his dad's affairs. He owns a bar and his dad's new family wants the bar. Jake works at a lawyers office who wants Derek's signature for the bar to be sold. Pretty simple right? Except Derek and Jake have a one night stand before they knew who each other were. What happens when Jake shows up for the signature? And Jake's boss interferes, what is Jake to do? I enjoyed this book! Please read!!!
I was asked for an honest review and did receive a copy!
This was a good story for what it was. I almost felt like Tami and Derek's connection was stronger than Jake and Derek's, though. There were lots of places I would have liked to see the plot fleshed out, especially the abrupt jump toward the end, but I knew it would be like that going in due to the length. As others mentioned, there were unanswered questions, but if you're looking a sweet, easy read you shouldn't be disappointed. I think if it had been twice as long, it would have the potential to be 5 stars for me.
Side note I had to chuckle when I realized Derek's last name was Morgan about 81% through.
This was a nice overall story about a guy, Derek, who inherits a bar from his uninvolved/estranged father, and is planning on selling it and hightailing it out of town as soon as he can. After being forced by one of the co-workers/friends he makes to go out for the night instead of stay and work, he meets Jake and brings him back to his apartment, which is upstairs from the bar, for a one night stand. They hit it off, and find they want to get to know each other better, even though they know Derek is planning to leave. The next day, when Jake goes to the bar to speak with the owner because he represents the father's other family in the purchasing deal, he is surprised to see it is Derek. I have to hit the "I believe" button a little here...he had no idea Derek was the owner, yet he just went back to his apartment upstairs last night. It was a little far-fetched, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. The guys work through their challenges, and try to see if a relationship could work. Of course there are some obstacles, but they worked. It seemed a little too wrapped up at times for me. I did enjoy this book, however.
I am becoming a huge fan of Miya Lee's writing. I've enjoyed all of her books so far. The writing improves with every book and I just adore her characters.
I think Derek and Jake may be my favorite couple so far.
Derek is in Pennsylvania because his estranged father has passed away, leaving him his bar. Derek's initial plan is to sell the bar to his father's widow then go back home to Arizona. While having a drink at a different bar, he meets Jake, who happens to work for the law firm that the father's widow is a client for. Jake knows the case but as the newbie in the firm, doesn't think he'd handle the case and doesn't know this is the same Derek anyways. So, they hit it off and wind up leaving together. This was just suppose to be a one night stand, Derek told Jake he's only in town for a week or so on business. But the attraction is more than physical. And they wouldn't mind getting to know each other a little better, even if it's only for the short time. So they make plans to meet up again the following night. Jake is surprised the next day when he's given the case, which is suppose to be a done deal. He goes to the bar to get the papers signed and is impressed with the changes that have already been made to the facility. Then he meets the owner...Derek. And therein lies the conflict of interest.
This is a short read and up until the Epilogue, takes place within a matter of days. These guys are really drawn to each other from the start. They know they shouldn't be seeing each other because of their connection and the fact that Jake works at the firm representing the potential buyer. But Jake is impressed with the changes Derek has already made to the place and doesn't think Derek should sell to the the father's widow. Derek has quickly bonded with the staff and other than his mother, doesn't have a real reason to go home to Arizona. And both guys are falling for each other fast.
So what is Derek to do? Sell to his father's widow? Sell to someone else who he thinks may keep the bar respectable? Keep it and move to Pennsylvania and hopefully try at a relationship with Jake?
I enjoyed this story a lot. My only complaint is there was a couple questions left unanswered that my curious brain would of liked answers to. First, why did the estranged father leave the bar to Derek, and why was he estranged? Also, Derek stated a couple times the reason he wasn't comfortable in Arizona was because of the rumors back home and for being judged. I'm wondering what the story was there.
In any event, I enjoyed this story and read it in one sitting. I would love to see these guys again somewhere down the line. Maybe a novella catching us up on their progress.
This is a short and sweet romance with great characters and no angst. I would definitely recommend this book !
*I received an ARC for an honest review. All thoughts and words are my own.
Absolutely loved it! This was so romantic and light, not at all complicated! This Author did a wonderful job on the story. I just wish it was longer, but it was very satisfying! Love at first sight and first chapter, could not put it down. Many Thanks, Barbara M. 🔥📚💙🎶
It was a short read and I was expecting something longer but it was worth it. The story was finely crafted. Derek and Jake is the perfect mixture of hotness for this story.
I think it was my first time reading something from Miya Lee. I am not disappointed. The meeting was fated even with the conflicting interest on both ends. Thumbs up.
